I am a visual artist working across photography, papercut, collage, and illustration. In my photography and artwork, I use natural forms and shifting light as my visual language, here my work is driven by a sense of searching - for what sits just beneath the surface. My other passion is for form and colour, for a bright lift of design, and I tend to use papercut and illustration to explore that.
Alongside my visual practice, I am also a musician and songwriter, and this strongly influences my imagery. Rhythm, mood, and emotional tone play an important role in how my work develops. In all that I do, an important sense of composition and balance forms a structure on which to explore these deeper themes. My work then reflects an ongoing exploration of memory, emotion, and the spaces between what is seen and what is sensed, with each piece emerging through an intuitive process of revealing, responding, constructing, and letting go.
I have had periods of ill health over the years that have both restricted me and opened me up; when we are restricted in some way we have to invent new ways of seeing, and having been always interested in 5,000 things at once, these times of restriction helped me immensely in learning to find patience, peace and inspiration in the small moments of everyday.
I currently live in Somerset, between two areas of wild landscape, and close to the sea. Nature is all around me and informs all that I know and love deeply.
